An English UFO investigator attributes his interest in the unknown to a childhood encounter with a black-eyed being.
UFO researcher Ben Walgate, 35, of Malton, North Yorkshire, England, attributes his current interest in the otherworldly to a childhood encounter with a slender, olive-green, black-eyed being.
Walgate recently recounted his experience in an interview with The Mirror, explaining that he had his life-changing experience when he was only seven or eight years old.
According to the interview, Walgate was returning from a Cub Scout camping trip at Snowball Plantation near York when the minibus stopped to allow its passengers to stretch their legs.
He climbed a small embankment near a wooded area with a clearing and a derelict outbuilding on a bright and hot day.
It was then that he noticed a creature, approximately 25 meters to his left, whose appearance still haunts him to this day.
I got a good look at this thing because the wooded area wasn’t too dense. We only had a few seconds, but we made eye contact, and it had black eyes.
This thing was out of the ordinary; it looked at me, and I looked back.
It was clearly not of this world. It had a strange vibe to it. Its head was small in comparison to its body.
It is not the stereotypical alien with grey skin and large black eyes. This was more lizard-like. I’m not saying it had scales or looked like a snake.
It was olive green from head to toe, a sleek, slender-looking creature with dark black eyes, a small, tiny head, and long, over-proportional arms that reached past the knees.
It was simply otherworldly; it had no business walking on two legs. This thing was strolling through the woods.

The creature appeared to be hunched over as it walked, he said, as if struggling to stand or perhaps to avoid being seen.
The creature was surprisingly unconcerned about being spotted by Walgate, who assumed at the time that he had been the victim of a prank.
He returned to the bus, expecting to be greeted by his friends’ laughter, but no one said anything. It appeared to be a phenomenon only known to Walgate.
Walgate, an outdoorsy kid with no interest in sci-fi or aliens, promptly forgot about the encounter for over a decade.
Later, in his twenties, he recalled the encounter “flooding back to me like a bolt of lightning.”
That experience inspired him to start researching and investigating the unknown, and five years ago he launched the 401 Files YouTube channel to document his investigations.
Walgate investigates strange phenomena in England on a regular basis for his more than 12.6 thousand followers.

“I’m still very scientifically minded; I’m not going to jump to conclusions and say it’s an alien,” he said. “I’m getting out there and looking into some of these areas, as well as following up on some of the stories that people have shared.”
Walgate’s reported loss of memory is not uncommon among people who have reported encounters with otherworldly beings.
In 2018, Tobias Wayland spoke with a man who claimed to have recovered memories of an abduction from a decade prior after suffering a concussion.
It is also not uncommon for witnesses to have encounters with such beings as children that have a significant impact on their lives.
Wayland interviewed a man earlier this year who claimed to have seen two solid black creatures with pointy ears and red eyes as a child in a small Ohio town in the early 1960s.
“Most people believe you’re insane or something.” But I’m 68 years old, so I might as well get it out of my system,” the man said of his experience. “I swear I would take a lie detector test.” It has followed me since I was a child. You are aware of what you witnessed. You can’t seem to get it out of your head.”
