Clare and her family moved into the allegedly haunted house and claim to have been terrorized on a regular basis by a ghostly monk figure and child.

A frightening poltergeist is said to have pelted a family with household items and even pushed the mother down the stairs.
Almost every night, a sinister ghostly figure resembling a monk and accompanied by a child peeping from its robes appeared.
Clare, her seven-month-old son, her boyfriend, and her sister had only recently moved into the home in Benchill, Wythenshawe when the malevolent presence appeared.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the apparition pelted the family with plates, ornaments, and a piece of shelving.
The mother then sought the help of a vicar, a priest, and several nuns to exorcise the “dangerous” spirit, but their efforts were futile.
Clare claimed she was pushed down the stairs by an icy hand on one occasion.
In 1994, the story ran on the front page of the Manchester Metro News, a sister publication to the MEN.

Clare told the newspaper at the time that the family loved the house but begged the council to relocate them after the terrifying events.
She stated: “It began soon after we moved in.
“I thought it was nothing at first, but it got worse and worse. We’re all terrified, including me.
“I like the house and the neighborhood, but I just can’t live with this. I can’t take it any longer.”
The mum described the ghostly monk, saying it can be seen clearly when it appears and has a burned face.

She expressed her concern, believing that it was only a matter of time before someone in the house was hurt.
The Altrincham Road convent in Sharston had paid Clare a visit and given her a crucifix.
Rev David Thomas of St Luke’s Church had also visited the family home in an attempt to exorcise the vengeful spirit.
He stated: “We prayed in the house, but that was all I could do. I believe she is sincere in her feelings.”
Father Michael Murray of St John’s RC Church in Woodhouse Lane, who was “concerned,” had also visited the property to bless it with holy water.
Manchester Council told the newspaper that they had no policy in place to deal with poltergeists after being approached.
“She needs to go back down on the housing list,” a council spokesperson said, “but I’m not sure how long that will take.”
The council, according to the spokesperson, only moved people on short notice if there was a threat of violence.
The same newspaper reported a week later that a team of “Ghostbusters” had visited the house to learn more about the alleged poltergeist activity.

The Stockport Ghost Society started their investigation at the family home.
One of the paranormal investigators, Angela, stated: “There is definitely something there, and it isn’t a poltergeist. It’s a ghost that acts like a poltergeist to attract attention.”
Despite the terrifying manifestation and actions of the alleged spirit, Angela believed the monk was not malicious in nature.
Initial investigations into several rooms in the house allegedly detected a “presence,” causing one of the investigators to become dizzy and light-headed.
